Season Ends for Pony City After 15 straight wins and 216 runs scored, BHAA's undefeated Pony City team met its match on July 20 vs. Duquesne in the second round of the City BIG League playoffs. Duquesne's hulking powerhouse pitcher shut down the Pony City offense for the first time this season and held on for a 5-0 win. Devonte Stackhouse and Brendan Blair pitched well for BHAA, while Jake Matschner played solid defense at second base. Blair and Marcus Dean combined for four impressive catches in the outfield. Despite strong pitching and defense, the team could not get its bats going against pitching of a caliber they have not seen this season.Congratulations to the players and coaches on a memorable and record-breaking run. Special thanks to the many Brighton Heights fans who came out to Morningside's Natoli Field to support the team as well. Pony City finished first overall in the city with a 14-0 regular season record, scoring 201 runs and relinquishing only 27 this season. Coming off a bye in the first round of the single-elimination playoffs, Pony City topped Squirrel Hill-Gold 15-1 on July 16 to advance and face Duquesne. |
